Ministry of Lands, Housing & Survey
PO Box G38
Notice to persons seeking to renew their Fixed Term Estates
This notice applies to owners of Fixed Term Estates (FTEs) which have expired or are going to expire soon. An application to renew a FTE can be made once 80% of the term of a FTE has passed. For example, if you have a 50-year FTE with 10 or less years remaining until it expires, you can apply now.
The Land Board has approved a new, clear process for people applying to renew their FTEs. This is in light of the delays that being experienced in the processing of these applications. The process is as follows:
The new process is designed to reduce the time and the number of steps involved in seeking a renewal of a Fixed Term Estate, and to put the bulk of the responsibility for assessments back on the FTE owner, and to provide clear directions to the public and officers alike as to what steps and requirements are involved. I have directed all Ministry staff to forward all outstanding FTE renewal applications to me by Monday this week. If you have any outstanding renewal applications, please contact me by email at AMcneil@mlhs.gov.sb with the details.
