Avoiding Scams

Deal locally, face-to-face.
Transact directly. Verify you are dealing directly with the actual buyer or seller. Dealing with a middle-man is risky.
Do not provide payment to anyone you have not met in person.
Do not make a purchase unless you have seen the product.
Prefer payments by cash. Never accept deferred payment (e.g. pay on credit, IOU, kaon, etc).
Never send money through Western Union or mobile transfer. Anyone who asks you for money without first meeting you or who refuses to pay you directly is probably a scammer.
Never give out financial information (bank account, debit or credit card details, account details, etc).
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Personal Safety

Do not use this website if you are a child below 18 years of age.
Insist on a public meeting place like a cafe, bank, or shopping centre.
Do not meet in a secluded place, or invite strangers into your home.
Be especially careful buying/selling high value items.
Tell a friend or family member where you're going.
Take your mobile phone along if you have one.
Consider having a friend accompany you.
Trust your instincts.

If you have any issues with something you paid for (e.g. a product you bought is defective), please contact the seller, and if the issue is not resolved in time, report the matter to the Consumer Affairs Division.

If you were defrauded by someone (e.g. you were lied to or were conned and lost money), please report the matter to the Police.
